THUNDER BAY – Police are looking for people they say might have helped save a life.
A single vehicle crash took place just after 11:30 a.m. Thursday at Robertson and McKenzie Streets, near Simpson Street. In a media release around 4:15 p.m. police said it appears a medical event took place before the crash.
They re-opened the intersection Thursday afternoon.
The injuries of a man involved in the crash are unknown at this time, but paramedics at the scene called in that vital signs were absent.
The 61-year-old man is at Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre but his condition is not being released. A witness, who would only say his name was Ed, said he saw the man driving slowly and hit a sign outside of Ogden Public School before the vehicle struck a fence post and came to a stop.
"His head was bobbing side-to-side as he came to the sign, he lunged forward and hit the sign, continued onto the post hit the post and he was forward into the steering wheel," he said.
"And some people came and knocked out the back window, unlocked the doors and started CPR."
Police are looking for the identity of those people, asking them to contact Please contact Const. Snyder in the Traffic unit. Police say a life might have been saved thanks to their efforts.
