The Premier is assuring the city that help is on the way.

On Thursday, Premier Dalton McGuinty’s office released a letter he sent to Mayor Keith Hobbs.

In that letter, the Premier thanks everyone in Thunder Bay for working together during the recent flood and that several ministries are in the city to help. He also assures the city that the province will support it.

“The province stands with Thunder Bay during the city’s time of need, and will be there with financial assistance,” the letter states.

McGuinty said he encouraged Hobbs to request that the city get a provincial disaster declaration so that it is eligible for funding under the Ontario Disaster Relief Assistance program.

The letter does not state whether the city, which expects an answer Friday, has been given the declaration.

Municipal Affairs and Housing Minister will visit the city Friday.

So, according to Hobbs, will provincial NDP leader Andrea Horwath.
