LONGLAC - Ontario Provincial Police in Greenstone have spent the last six months investigating the death of a 29-year-old man who is believed to have died from a suspected drug overdose.

Greenstone OPP said in a news release issued Monday, Nov. 9, they were first alerted to the death on April 26 in Longlac. After a six month investigation, police and in conjunction with the Office of the Coroner have charged Jacob Wattie, 24, with three counts of trafficking in a scheduled one substance.

“Although the investigation did not yield charges specifically related to the overdose death, a 24-year-old Russell Township resident has been charged with several drug offences for allegedly trafficking to the deceased,” the release said.

Wattie was charged with attempted murder last May after an incident at the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre.

The accused made a brief court appearance on Friday, Nov. 6 and was remanded into custody.

Police are asking any person with information related to this case or any other drug trafficking investigation to contact OPP Communications Centre at 1-888-310-1122.
