THUNDER BAY -- A truck driver from southern Ontario died Sunday night in a collision on Highway 17 north of Lake Superior.
Late Monday morning, OPP issued a news release identifying the deceased as 31-year-old Ayaz Bhatti of Brampton.
Police said he was operating an eastbound tractor-trailer that left the road and struck a rock-cut between Jackfish Hill and the Steel River bridge.
The single-vehicle collision, which occurred at about 9:00 pm, forced the temporary closure of the Trans-Canada Highway.
The highway was subsequently re-opened to one lane, with eastbound and westbound traffic alternating.
