FORT FRANCES, Ont. — Ontario Provincial Police say a man died on the weekend after being struck by a train just west of Fort Frances.

The deceased was identified in a police news release Monday as 18-year-old Darryl Joseph Sakchekapo from Naicatchewenin First Nation.

OPP said they were contacted by Canadian National Railway just after 2:30 a.m. Saturday after locomotive engineers reported they had seen something suspicious on the track in Alberton Township.

About one kilometre east of the Kehl Road rail crossing, officers found a man lying on the track.

Railway traffic was halted for about seven hours as police conducted an investigation.

OPP are asking anyone with information that may assist them in the ongoing investigation to contact them.
