OPP officers are hoping a new campaign for improved winter driving habits will decrease collisions involving snowplows.

OPP officers are hoping a new campaign for improved winter driving habits will decrease collisions involving snowplows.

The Let Us Lead the Way campaign, supported by Thunder Bay snowplow operators, maintenance contractors, and the Ontario Ministry of Transportation, is intended to raise awareness and hopefully prevent collisions with snowplows this winter.

More than a thousand snowplows will be out clearing Ontario’s highways this winter.

Police say driving too fast during the winter and passing snowplows are major causes of collisions. Police say these collisions can be prevented if drivers use more caution when approaching snowplows.

Police advised motorists to be patient and keep a safe distance back from snowplows and never pass or drive beside them. Police also add that when driving towards a snowplow to stay as far to the right as possible.
