NIPIGON, Ont. -- Provincial police have charged a Schreiber man with two counts of careless driving causing death for his alleged role in a crash that killed two people near Dorion.

The OPP on Wednesday announced the charge, which stem from a fatal two-vehicle crash on Highway 11/17 between Thunder Bay and Nipigon on Sept. 28, 2018.

Police said a westbound pickup truck crossed the oncoming lane, colliding with an eastbound sport utility vehicle. Two occupants in the SUV – 69-year-old Thomas Long and 59-year-old Shelley Long, both of Terrace Bay, Ont. – were pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver and passenger of the pickup truck were sent to hospital with injuries that were not considered life-threatening.

The investigation, which was conducted by Nipigon OPP officers, with assistance from the OPP's technical collision investigation officers and the OPP's forensic identification services, determined the westbound vehicle was at fault.

Police last month charged 40-year-old Stephen Polseky of Schreiber, Ont. with two counts of careless driving causing death under the Highway Traffic Act.
