LAPPE, Ont. -- A search is underway in the Lappe area for male suspect who fled from the OPP Wednesday.

The incident began when a patrolling officer came across a vehicle in the parking lot of the Hazelwood Conservation area.

The driver immediately fled upon seeing police, but the vehicle was later spotted in a gravel pit on Hollander Road in Gorham Township.

When officers approached, the driver fled into the bush, leaving behind a female passenger.

She has since been interviewed by police and released.

Police were called again after a man approached a Lappe area home early this morning seeking assistance.

Police say the man is not believed to be dangerous, but is in breach of some release conditions.

They's asking residents to contact the OPP if they spot a suspicious man and to refrain from picking up hitchikers.
