THUNDER BAY — Ontario Provincial Police have now released more details about the astonishing behaviour of one motorist.
According to an OPP Northwest Region message posted on social media, within a period of just 12 hours, officers stopped the same individual no fewer than four times for speeding on Highway 17.
Radar tracked the driver, a woman from the Greater Toronto Area, at speeds up to 138 km/h.
In addition to speeding charges, she was charged for not stopping at a stop sign.
"The driver had to get a hotel for the night" and "is now required to appear in court to answer to the charges," OPP stated.
The message added "There is no need for driving behaviour like this...Please SLOW DOWN."
Police photos show the vehicle was pulled over near Red Rock before it was taken off the road and put onto a flatbed tow truck.
An OPP spokesperson provided additional information to TBnewswatch on Thursday morning, saying the vehicle was not impounded, but rather was towed under provisions of the Criminal Code and common law.
"The decision to tow the vehicle was made with the utmost consideration for public safety and had two primary objectives: prevention of the offence continuation, and removal of a dangerous, fatigued driver. The decision...was based on the totality of the circumstances surrounding the incident, which included the inability to adhere to previous officer demands," he said in a statement.
The spokesperson added "The infractions committed by the driver were dangerous in nature, making it necessary to take action to protect the safety of all who use our roadways."
None of the driver's alleged infractions have been proven in court.
