RED LAKE, Ont. -- A OPP officer has been cleared of wrongdoing involving the death of a 35-year-old man.

RED LAKE, Ont. -- A OPP officer has been cleared of wrongdoing involving the death of a 35-year-old man.

The Director of the Special Investigations Unit Ian Scott concluded Tuesday that there was no reasonable grounds to charge the officer with any criminal offence. Scott said that the officer investigated played no role in the man's death.

Police responded to a call around 4 a.m. on Nov. 5. Officers entered the home and discovered a man dead in the basement.

Police had arrived at the same home a day earlier after reports came in that the same man had attempted suicide.

The SIU had two investigators as well as two forensic investigators assigned to the case.

Ten officers and a civilian witness were interviewed.
