OPP probe multiple vehicle thefts in Nipigon/Red Rock

NIPIGON, Ont. -- Ontario Provincial Police dispatched a helicopter and a canine unit to the Nipigon/Red Rock area to look for suspects in the theft of several vehicles.

The thefts were first reported early Tuesday morning, and as of Thursday morning, the investigation was still underway.

According to an OPP news release, three pickup trucks and a minivan were taken, with one incident occurring in the Township of Nipigon and the remainder in the Township of Red Rock.

In all cases, the ignition keys had been left in the vehicles.

All of them were eventually recovered in close proximity to where they were stolen, with little to no damage.

Police assigned a helicopter, a canine unit and a Scenes of Crime officer to the scene to process evidence and search the area for suspects. OPP cruisers also conducted patrols.
