PIKANGIKUM FIRST NATION, ON — In the early morning hours of March 22, 2009, Judy Ann Quill was seen leaving a relative's home in the First Nation community of Pikangikum.

A short time later, the 33-year-old woman was discovered suffering from serious injuries in a wooded area, and she subsequently died at the local medical centre.

A post mortem exam concluded that she had succumbed to injuries suffered during an assault.

Ontario Provincial Police say the homicide investigation remains open.

Investigators plan to spend the week talking to community members in hopes that someone is able to provide new information that will lead them to a suspect.

"I believe there is a strong desire in Pikangikum to solve this murder," said Detective Inspector Randy Heida.

"Ms. Quill was brutally beaten and killed. I believe someone knows what happened to her. We want to talk to them, gather that evidence, and bring this case to a successful conclusion for Ms. Quill, for her family, and for her community," Heida added in a statement.
