OPP Media Update
(RED LAKE, ON) – Officers of the Red Lake Detachment Community Drug Action Team of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) in conjunction with the Organized Crime Enforcement Bureau (OCEB), Drug Enforcement Unit (DEU) and Provincial Operations Intelligence Bureau (POIB) conducted a several month long Controlled Drugs and Substances Act inter-provincial trafficking investigation with the assistance of Winnipeg Police Service and Treaty Three Police Service.
As a result of the investigation, on January 12, 2016, a substantial amount of cocaine was intercepted destined for the Municipality of Red Lake. 1.75 pounds of Cocaine and a 2005 Chevrolet truck were seized and two adult males were arrested and charged.
Subsequently, four Controlled Drugs and Substances Act search warrants were executed in the Municipality of Red Lake with the assistance of the OPP Red Lake Detachment, Dryden Detachment, Kenora Detachment, North West Region Emergency Response Team, Canine Unit and Treaty Three Police Service.
As a result of the search warrants, the following items were seized:
• Approximately 135 grams cannabis resin (hash)
• 30 grams marihuana
• 7 grams cocaine
• Approximately $7000 cash
• Evidence of drug trafficking
The total value of the Controlled Drugs seized during this investigation is $62,400 in addition to the cash seized.
Four people have been arrested and now face multiople drug-related charges.
