OPP, Treaty Three Police investigate suspicious death

WHITEFISH BAY FIRST NATION -- A discovery of human remains in an area of brush has lead to a suspicious death investigation.

Ontario Provincial Police North West Region and Treaty Three Police are investigating a suspicious death near Whitefish Bay First Nation.

Buifford COWLEY, age 45 of Whitefish Bay First Nation was reported missing on Sunday, Sept. 4.

Police say an extensive search resulted in the discovery of human remains in an area of brush in the Northwest Angle #33 First Nation area.

The body has been confirmed to be that of Buifford COWLEY.

A post-mortem examination will be conducted at the Centre of Forensic Sciences in Toronto to confirm the cause of death. 

The investigation, by the Treaty Three Police, OPP North West Region Crime Unit and OPP Forensic Identification Services Unit is continuing, under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch, in conjunction with the Office of the Chief Coroner for Ontario and the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service.
