The Ontario Public Sector Employee's Union in Thunder Bay is preparing to move into a new office, after getting the planning go-ahead from Thunder Bay city council last night.
The region's OPSEU chapter came to council asking for these two properties at the corner of Memorial Avenue and Queen Street to be rezoned for office use.
OPSEU officials say they intend to redevelop the former Thunder Bay Business Systems building into their new regional office, and demolish the former video store next door to create additional parking spaces.
OPSEU has been seeking a suitable location for a new office for some time.
The union previously bought another lot on the corner of Memorial and Beverly Street.
However, parking difficulties and cost made the other site impractical.
City Council voted to grant OPSEU's application to rezone the two properties on Memorial.
There's no word on when the re-development will go ahead.
