A 35-year-old Orillia, Ont. man is dead and a Marathon man is in hospital being treated for head injuries after a collision Friday night just west of Marathon.

OPP, who closed Highway 17 for about 13 hours, say a total of four people were transported to hospital for treatment of their injuries.

Police say a westbound vehicle lost control while attempting to navigate a curve and struck the guard rail. A passing eastbound motorist stopped to assist. At that time another westbound vehicle lost control and struck the first vehicle, striking two people.

The 35-year old was pronounced dead in hospital while the other victim may be transferred to a larger hospital for further treatment of his head injuries.

The other occupants were treated in hospital and released.

Police have not indicated whether or not charges are pending.
