A Thunder Bay driver with a suspended driver’s licence was nailed by Ottawa OPP on back-to-back days.

The 44-year-old man was caught by officers who were patrolling with the assistance of an automated licence plate recognition program.

Upon the initial stop, on Highway 417, the man was issued a summons under the Provincial Offences Act.

A day later another officer was patrolling another stretch of the same highway when the ALPR device spotted the vehicle again, leading to a second stop in as many days.

The man, who police did not name, has been charged with two counts of driving while under suspension and is scheduled to appear in court on June 5 in Ottawa.

Under the Highway Traffic Act, drivers found operating a vehicle with a suspended licence face an immediate seven-day impoundment of their vehicle. If the suspension is for a criminal code conviction, it’s a 45-day impoundment.
