EMO, Ont. – The Northwest Health Unit has declared a COVID-19 outbreak at the Sturgeon Creek Alternative Program in Emo, Ont.

In a release, the health unit said the outbreak, declared when two or more cases are found in a school and case and contact follow-up does not show probable links outside the school, will have an impact on all staff and students.

The school at present is closed because of the spring break and the provincial mandate that schools be closed to in-person learning for two weeks beyond the break.

The Northwest Health Unit earlier this week declared a COVID outbreak at Calvary Baptist Church in Emo, but did not say whether the two outbreaks are linked.

Anyone involved is encouraged to follow the stay-at-home order issued by the province and to self-isolate for symptoms. Close and high-risk contacts will be contacted by the health unit by the end of day on Friday.

The health unit and the Rainy River District School Board are working together to ensure the facility is safe when students do return.
