THUNDER BAY – A COVID-19 outbreak at McKellar Park Central Public School has been declared over, after 12 cases were recorded there.

That put it among the schools with the most reported infections in the province in recent weeks.

The Thunder Bay District Health Unit first declared the outbreak at the Archibald Street elementary school on Feb. 11, resulting in all students being sent home to learn virtually.

On Saturday, the health unit declared the outbreak over. According to provincial guidelines, outbreaks can be declared over when at least 14 days have passed with no evidence of ongoing transmission linked to the school.

“No additional cases of COVID-19 have been identified and there is no evidence of additional spread within the school setting,” the health unit stated Saturday.
