THUNDER BAY -- The City of Thunder Bay has closed all outdoor skating rinks for the season -- except Prince Arthur's Landing -- after rain and warm temperatures caused deterioration in the ice conditions.
Cory Halvorsen, manager of parks and open spaces planning, said his staff has been working hard to keep rinks open, but unfortunately the weather has not cooperated.
“The recent warm weather has caused the ice surface to soften and given the additional above-zero temperatures forecasted for the foreseeable future, we have made the decision to close the rinks for the season,” Halvorsen said.
Outdoor skating rinks are weather dependent and are typically open from mid-December through mid-March.
