A pair of Northern Ontario outdoor enthusiasts is turning their passion for canoeing into a way to raise money for charity.

Dave and Matheson Turgeon are travelling across Canada by canoe in support of the Sick Kids Foundation. The father and son team began their journey in Abbotsford, B.C., in April and have been canoeing and portaging ever since.

Dave Turgeon says his desire to help the Sick Kids organization stems from his own experience with the foundation more than 25 years ago.

The Hornepayne natives arrived in Thunder Bay Wednesday night, and plan to set out again Thursday morning.

Donations can be made online or at any Northern Credit Union or CIBC locations.
