THUNDER BAY -- A stubborn fire proved difficult for emergency crews to knock down, causing significant damage to an Alexandra Street home.
Residents were alerted to the blaze by neighbours and got out safely.
Thunder Bay Fire Rescue, in a release, said they responded to the two-alarm fire at about 1 a.m. on Monday.
When they arrived the rear of the house was engulfed in flames and the formed an attack line through an adjacent yard to knock it down, made tougher when the fire advanced into the walls and attic space, fueled by a compromised gas meter.
Crews remained on scene most of the night.
The cause of the fire has yet to be determined.
