THUNDER BAY - The property owner of a south-side home ythat was the scene of a fire last month has been ticketed.

Thunder Bay Fire Rescue issued a media release, saying the owner of a Thorndale Crescent home has been fined a total of $720 for failing to install both a smoke alarm and carbon monoxide alarm where required.

Each ticket has a fine of $360.

Firefighters responded to a structural fire on May 17, resulting in the findings.

“Thunder Bay Fire Rescue has a zero tolerance policy regarding smoke and carbon monoxide alarm violations,” said Deputy Fire Chief Dave Paxton in a statement.

“Only a carbon monoxide alarm can alert you to its deadly presence and only a smoke alarm gives you the time needed to escape a fire emergency.”

Thunder Bay Fire Rescue reminds residents that it is the law to have working smoke alarms on every level of your home and outside all sleeping areas. Carbon Monoxide alarms are required to be installed outside any sleeping area if your home has a fuel fired appliance, a fireplace or an attached garage.
