The merger of two Northwestern Ontario credit unions has been given the green light by their membership.
Superior Credit Union has five branches located in Thunder Bay, Marathon, and Schreiber. They'll now be joining with Kenora's five Copperfin Credit Union locations, and will be switching to the Copperfin name.
Members of the two credit unions voted on Tuesday and Thursday of this week overwhelmingly in favour of the merger, which is effective May 1.
Other than the name change, officials with Superior say their members will not experience any immediate changes to their day-to-day banking activities.
The combined credit unions will serve more than 22,000 members, will employ 104 people and hold about $300 million in assets.
