THUNDER BAY -- The region’s hospital’s new parking system has run into a bit of a roadblock.

The Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre recently moved to a new parking system that utilizes tokens. Those tokens are used to pay and exit the lots.

But the hospital recently ran out of those tokens, leaving visitors with no way to actually pay for the parking they needed.

“What we think is happening is that people who don’t need chips because they have passes are taking the chips upon entrance,” Hospital spokesman Chisholm Pothier told CKPR Radio.

“Then they don’t need to pay to get out, so they leave with the chip.”

Pothier added that new tokens were expected to arrive sometime Wednesday, and that the parking procedures would be back in place at that time.

Parking was free during the chip shortage.
