THUNDER BAY – A significant portion of the north side is without water, and the city is now asking all residents to limit their water use until further notice.

A failure at the Chamberlain Pumping station occurred at about 3 a.m. Thursday and many on the city’s north side are experiencing low water pressure, discoloured water or no water service entirely.

The most impacted customers are in the area around Shuniah Street.

“We have asked customers throughout the city to restrict all nonessential water use wherever possible today until we can rectify the situation,” said Michelle Warywoda, City of Thunder Bay’s director of environment and operations division.

“We will be providing regular updates to the media to let the residents know what’s happening.”

City crews are working on a fix and questions may be directed to the City of Thunder Bay’s infrastructure and operations dispatch at 625-2195.

The cause of the problem isn’t known at this time.

More information will be published as it becomes available.
