THUNDER BAY - The partial nightly closure of a section of Highway 61 that was to begin Monday night has been postponed.
The Ministry of Transportation issued a statement Monday afternoon stating that due to weather, the closure has been postponed until conditions improve.
The closure would have seen a section of Highway 61 between Broadway Avenue and Neebing Avenue/Princess Street reduced to a single lane between 10 p.m. and 6:30 a.m.
Work began last June by the contractor Toronto-Zenith to repair the overpass, as well as repairs to the concrete on the Canadian Pacific Railway underpass.
The work was originally scheduled to be completed last November but the company said it would not meet that deadline and the work would continue in the spring.
The Ministry said in an earlier statement that in addition to the partial closures, there will be a full highway closure on Friday May 24, 2019. A marked detour will be provided down Neebing Avenue.
The partial highway closures are expected to continue until mid June.
