Thunder Bay traffic officers spent a few hours with a public works crew on Wednesday afternoon. The following is a release issued by police about the results of their efforts:
Managers have been voicing some serious corncerns about the safety of their crews who are out patching pot-holes. Motorists are speeding by without slowing or leaving any space for the men who are trying to focus on the job at hand. There have been more than a few very close "near misses", and enough is enough. Work place safety is something we all know and respect.
And then,.... there are all those folks who are more focused on their phone conversation.
They are absolutely right, it's amazing how good the view is from a dump truck and how few people expect to see a police officer in the passenger seat of a dump truck.
Public works went through a couple yards of cold patch. Officers went through eight tickets in two hours. Offences included speeding, cell phones, a seat belt and an amber light violation.
Plans are to repeat again and again (until they run out of pot holes or we run out of tickets).
