OTTAWA — Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has given a new assignment to Thunder Bay - Superior North MP Patty Hajdu.

Hajdu has been moved from the health portfolio to Indigenous Services, taking over from Marc Miller who goes to Crown-Indigenous Relations.

She will also be responsible for FedNor, the economic development agency for Northern Ontario.

Quebec MP Jean-Yves Duclos is the new minister of health.

Hajdu was first elected to the House of Commons in 2015, and was re-elected in 2019 and 2021.

Her first job in the cabinet was as Minister of Status of Women.

In 2017, Trudeau appointed her Minister of Employment, Workforce Development and Disability Inclusion.

Two years later, he gave her the health portfolio.

Hajdu's office issued a brief statement following the swearing-in of the new cabinet at Rideau Hall on Tuesday.

She expressed thanks to Health Canada staff, the Public Health Agency of Canada, Chief Public Health Officer Dr. Theresa Tam and to Tam's deputy for their work during the pandemic.

Hajdu said she looks forward to starting her new role and to working alongside First Nations, Inuit and Métis partners.

Cabinet ministers are paid $88,700 in addition to the annual base MP salary of $185,800.
