Thunder Bay Police have charged two female pedestrians following a collision on South Cumberland Street early Sunday morning.

The pedestrians aged 17 and 19 years, had stepped out into Cumberland Street just south of Red River Road just before 2:00 a.m. Sunday morning. The females were struck by an SUV which was traveling southbound. The two sustained injuries non-life threatening injuries and were transported to hospital.

A section of Cumberland Street was shut down for an investigation into the collision. The 17 year old female driver was not charged. The two pedestrians were charged under City By-Law 065-2011 Section 39(1) Pedestrian entering highway from sidewalk not in safety.

Pedestrians are urged to follow age old advice in keeping safe by looking both ways before crossing a street.
