No one was seriously injured in a light-plane crash near Marathon on Thursday, says an official with the Thunder Bay OPP detachment.

According to a release from the OPP's Marathon detachment, the small aircraft was attempting to take off from the community's airport, ran out of runway, clipped a small fence and the pilot lost control.

The plane then hit a light pole and came to rest in the ditch alongside Highway 17.

The pilot, from Winnipeg, was taken to hospital and received treatment for minor injuries before being released.

A tow truck removed the plane, though not before the highway was completely shut down for about two hours. A single lane was then opened to traffic and the entire route was re-opened at about 4 p.m.

The investigation into the crash continues.
