Two people have received serious injuries after their plane crashed near Trout Lake.
Kenora OPP and paramedics arrived at the scene of the crash of the Cessna 180 aircraft after receiving the call around 9:30 a.m. local time on Wednesday. Police say the small plane had gone down in the bush north of Kenora and about five miles away from Vermilion Bay.
David Ross, spokesman for the Transportation Safety Board, said three people were on board the plane. The pilot, a 78-year-old male, and a 62-year-old female passenger were injured and initially taken to Lake of the Woods hospital. The pilot was subsequently transferred to a hospital in Thunder Bay, while the female passenger was sent to Duluth for treatment of her injuries. Both were listed in serious condition.
All three on board are from Cloquet, Minn.
Ross said the small plane was privately registered in the United States and was making a local flight from Trout Lake.
“Right now the OPP are on scene gathering information to assist us,” Ross said.
He added that they have to decide if they will send an investigator to the crash site or not.
The investigation is ongoing.
