Hopes of a new wood pellet production facility in Ignace have been dashed.
Wagner Ontario Forest Management Ltd. had planned on building a plant and having it fully operational by October 2013. That would have created an estimated 20 new jobs.
“(Wagner Ontario Forest Management) said there were no sales for pellets,” said Mayor Lee Kennard during an interview with CKPR Radio. “If there was then it would be too expensive because they can produce them so much cheaper in the states.
“It made it unfeasible to have a plant up here.”
Kennard added that Resolute sawmill is also affected, as that company had intended on using Wagner's excess wood.
