Nishnawbe Aski Nation Grand Chief Stan Beardy has called a Sunday afternoon news conference to announce his future plans.

First elected in 2000, Beardy in 2009 was re-elected for an unprecedented fourth term to represent 49 First Nations communities in Northern Ontario.

Prior to that he spent 10 years as chief in his home community of Muskrat Dam First Nation.

The release issued by Beardy on Friday gives no indication of what he intends to announce.
