Dates for a Police Service Act hearing involving Sgt. James Mauro have been set, city police reported Monday.

The hearing is scheduled to take place on Oct. 13 and Oct. 14 in Thunder Bay.

Officials with the Thunder Bay Police Service say a location has not been determined yet, but add that a news release will be issued when one is selected. The exact times of the hearing will also be released at that time.

Sgt. Mauro was charged with deceit and discreditable conduct in April, 2010. The charges are in connection with an October 2009 arbitration hearing. During the hearing, police say Mauro submitted a letter to the arbitration in support of his position that was said to be from then Thunder Bay Police Association president Keith Hobbs.

It is alleged that the letter did not come from Hobbs, but that Mauro had written it himself.

In April 2010, the police association head Greg Stephenson responded to the charges by saying the association fully supports its members.
