Police arrest suspected car-shopping thief

THUNDER BAY -- City police have arrested a man suspected of going through parked vehicles in the Wallbridge Avenue area.

Officials with the Thunder Bay Police Service say they received a call on Dec. 17 just after midnight from a concerned citizen about a man going through vehicles around the neighbourhood.

When officers arrived they noticed a man running down a back laneway. The man matched the description that was reported by the complainant.

The officers stopped the man, and after a check of the immediate area they found a backpack belonging to the suspect. The backpack contained items believed to have been taken from vehicles in the area.

The 23-year-old Thunder Bay man was arrested and taken to the city police station. He has been charged with the following: 

  • Possession of stolen property under $5,000
  • Trespass by night
  • Breach of probation

The suspect was expected to make a court appearance Monday morning.
