THUNDER BAY – A Winnipeg man faces several charges related to drug trafficking and breach of probation after a Thunder Bay Police Service investigation into what police described as a home takeover situation.

Officers with the TBPS's Community Oriented Response and Engagement (CORE) Unit attended a home in the 700s block of John Street, near the intersection with Algonquin Avenue, just after 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday after receiving information about a suspected ongoing home takeover.

Police observed a male suspect attempting to flee the scene upon arrival, the TBPS said in a release issued Thursday, but were able to locate and arrest him without further incident.

Further investigation revealed the suspect was involved in drug trafficking activity, police said, reporting cocaine and suspected crack cocaine were seized along with cash.

As a result of the investigation, 22-year-old Nejib Abulrished Hassan, of Winnipeg is charged with possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking, possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000, and breach of probation.

Hassan appeared in bail court on Thursday and was remanded into custody with a future appearance date, police said.
