Police have arrested a man accused of using pruning shear in an attempted robbery in the Intercity area Thursday.
Thunder Bay Police Service officers say an employee of a business in that area was outside around 2:15 p.m. during a break. A male approached the employee, grabbed him and pulled out a pair of pruning shears.
Police say the suspect tried to stab the man with the pruning shears.
The employee defending himself, and other staff members of a nearby business came to assist him.
Police say the suspect attempted to grab the victim’s iPod as he fled.
Police later located a 31-year-old man and arrested him. The suspect is now charged with assault with a weapon and robbery.
Note to readers: An earlier version of this story reported that the robbery took place outside the Intercity Shopping Centre. The incident in fact took place in the Intercity area and not the mall.
