Uniformed city police officers undergo another major change in their shift schedule soon.
Contract negotiations are underway between the Police Association and the Thunder Bay Police Service Police Board, which could eventually see officers working 12-hour shifts.
Back in 2008, the police force and the union negotiated a move from eight-hour to 10-hour shifts. That change was aimed at ensuring more officers were working the streets at any one time.
Police association president Greg Stephenson confirms that 12-hours shifts are now being considered.
He said there are a lot of potential benefits, both to the police force and to city residents.
Police board chair Joe Virdiramo declined to comment about the proposal until the new contract has been considered and approved by the entire board.
