The numbers are in for the 2010 Thunder Bay Police operating budget, and while the police service did go over budget, members of the police board don't appear to be too concerned.
The Thunder Bay Police Service’s Board meeting set the 2010 budget at more than $31 million, but during the course of the year the service saw several cost over-runs, including staff overtime.
Board chair Joe Virdiramo said the force faces overtime situations because police officers have to continue investigations and write reports once their shifts are over.
Virdiramo added that while the $460,000 variance is a big number, it's not unreasonable based on criminal activity in 2010.
Virdiramo said the board recently re-negotiated police officers' shifts to 10 hours, which may help reduce the overtime deficit.
