THUNDER BAY -- Police agencies are warning that there may be traffic delays this weekend as a national convoy rolls through Northwestern Ontario.
The United We Roll Truck Convoy, which is travelling from Alberta, will be passing through the region this weekend as it makes its way to Ottawa. The convoy is protesting carbon pricing and the economic downturn in Alberta's oil and gas sector, while urging the federal government to move forward on pipeline construction.
The convoy, which could have as many as several hundred vehicles, is expected to arrive in Thunder Bay at some point on Saturday afternoon after crossing the Manitoba border on Friday.
Thunder Bay police said officers will be providing traffic control to ensure safe passage while attempting to minimize the distruption. The convoy is expected to remain on the Thunder Bay Expressway, police added.
The convoy is tentatively expected to pass through around 1 p.m.
Police advise motorists to expect significant delays at intersections along the highway and to adjust their travel plans.
Drivers are asked to be patient and follow the direction of officers controlling traffic.
