Police cautioning about scam targeting local businesses

The caller is claiming to be from a different business and is providing fraudulent credit card numbers to make purchases.

THUNDER BAY – The Thunder Bay Police Service is warning local businesses about an apparent scam. 

“The Thunder Bay Police Service’s Economic Crime Unit has received reports of businesses receiving telephone calls to make credit card purchases,” a release said.

In these cases, the caller is claiming to be from a different business and is providing fraudulent credit card numbers to make purchases. 

“Police are reminding businesses to follow proper procedures to take credit card purchase orders over the phone, and to make their employees aware of those procedures,” the release said.
