THUNDER BAY - Two women have been charged following an assault on the city’s north side Saturday afternoon.

Thunder Bay police said in a release issued Sunday that two officers observed what appeared to be an assault taking place inside the Water Street overpass on Saturday just before 3 p.m.

Officers intervened and after a brief struggle and assistance from a passerby, two women were placed under arrest.

The victim was unconscious and suffered significant facial injuries. He was transported to hospital for treatment and police said if officers did not stop the assault the injuries may have been much more severe.

Jessie Chapais, 24, and Veronica Georgina Lynn Skunk, 28, have both been charged with assault causing bodily harm and obstructing a police officer.

Chapais and Skunk made a court appearance on Sunday morning and have been remanded into custody.
