Police investigate incident at the James Street Swing Bridge

Investigators want to hear from witnesses to the incident

THUNDER BAY — City police continue to investigate an incident that resulted in a male entering the Kaministiquia River at the James Street Swing Bridge on Tuesday evening.

Police, firefighters and paramedics were all dispatched to the scene just after 6:30 pm, following reports that a person had fallen or jumped from the bridge.

Thunder Bay Fire Rescue located the individual in the middle of the river on the south side of the bridge, and used an inflatable rapid deployment craft to quickly reach him and get him to shore.

He was conscious but suffering from hypothermia.

The male was transferred to paramedics who took him to hospital for treatment.

In an update released Wednesday afternoon, police appealed to anyone who witnessed the incident and has not yet spoken to investigators, to call the TBPS non-emergency line at 684-1200.
