Police investigate serious May Street crash

Two vehicles involved in Monday morning's collision, which has closed a section of May Street.

THUNDER BAY – Police are investigating a serious collision that took place on Monday morning on the south side of the city.

It appears two vehicles, a pick-up truck and an SUV, were involved in the crash, which took place at the intersection of Finlayson and May streets and sent at least one person to the hospital for treatment of their injuries.

A bystander said a building on the corner of the two streets was also damaged in the violent collision. Another bystander said police had pulled over one of the vehicles when it took off, slamming into the other vehicle while trying to flee. Police have not confirmed the details of the crash.

The closure lasted until about 8:30 p.m.

Police had blocked off sections of Finlayson and May streets while they investigate the incident.

The OPP K-9 unit is also patrolling in the area, seen being led through a section of Wiley Street, with tactical officers also on scene.

Police have asked the public to avoid May Street, from Northern Avenue, south to Dease Street and all adjacent streets.
