Update: 17-year-old charged in fatal John Street shooting

THUNDER BAY — City police have charged a male youth from Hamilton in connection with a fatal shooting Sunday in the 700 block of John Street.

The 17-year-old is charged with second-degree murder in the death of a 23-year-old Thunder Bay man, whose name has not yet been released.

Thunder Bay police were alerted just after 3:30 p.m. to reports of shots having been fired.

Investigating officers learned that the victim had suffered injuries consistent with a shooting, and was taken by paramedics to hospital.

He was pronounced dead just before 9 p.m.

Police arrested the accused just after 12:30 a.m. Monday.

Their investigation revealed that he is under a firearms prohibition order as the result of a previous criminal incident in Southern Ontario.

The crime scene on John Street is being held while the investigation continues.
