THUNDER BAY – City police are warning area residents of a recent door-to-door scam.
Officials with the Thunder Bay Police say three men are going door-to-door in an attempt to defraud people of their money.
On March 16, three men entered the home of an elderly woman on West Arthur Street. The men convinced the woman that her house needed several repairs.
Then, two of the men went outside, pretending to do the work.
The men insisted they needed her to write them a cheque for the work they had done before they would leave.
The woman wrote a cheque totally most of her savings. All three men then left.
One of the men attempted to cash this cheque at a local bank, but the staff grew suspicious of the transaction.
Police are asking residents not to allow strangers into their homes and to call police if any suspicious person are seen in your area.
Potential con artists will try to enter your home through a variety of means, including posing as sales people or contractors.
At the time of this release, detailed descriptions of the men were not available.
This incident is still under investigation, if anyone has any information regarding these three men, please contact Thunder Bay Police or Thunder Bay District Crime Stoppers (623-8477).
