UPDATED: Police investigating violent incident at mall

Thunder Bay Police Service officers are on-site questioning shoppers regarding the incident.

THUNDER BAY — An incident at Intercity Shopping Centre on Sunday has led the police to tape off a section of the food court.

Bystanders said the incident took place at about 4:30 p.m.

A witness told TBNewswatch paramedics were tending to a victim who appeared to be bleeding.

A first aid kit on the ground in the taped-off area also appears to have been used.

Thunder Bay Police Service primary response officers were dispatched shortly after 4 p.m. to respond and contain the scene.

The service had around six cruisers and another emergency vehicle on-site.

Officers were observed questioning shoppers regarding the incident.

The police said, in a media release issued later in the evening, that an individual was transported to the hospital for further treatment and assessment, but no further information is currently available about the extent of their injuries.

Multiple people have also been taken into custody and there is no current threat to public safety.

Several shoppers appeared to be leaving the centre.

This story will be updated as more information becomes available.
