The OPP is reminding anglers and other area residents to be aware of changing ice conditions on area lakes and rivers.

OPP Const. Diana Cole said with spring just more than a week away, it can be a dangerous time on area waterways.  With temperatures expected to be above freezing throughout most of the upcoming week, the ice will likely get even more unstable.

Cole also warns students on March break to stay off the ice on area ponds, creeks and rivers.

Cole points out that at this time last year, a pick-up truck went through the ice at Lac Des Mille Lacs.

Fortunately, no one was hurt in that incident, but Cole said it shows how lake ice can be dangerous even at this time of the year.
