Police say Mishkeegogamang death a murder

MISHKEEGOGAMANG FIRST NATION -- Police say a 17-year-old Mishkeegogamang First Nation girl has died of injuries suffered in a weekend assault, leading to murder charges expected against a 32-year-old man.

OPP, in a release issued on Friday night, said Lynnora Mikenak, also known as Lynorra Lawson, was pronounced dead following the May assault, that led to the arrest of 32-year-old Jerry Fox.

The accused remains in custody awaiting his next court date and police say additional charges are pending.

Nishnawbe Aski Police Service officers were called to a Henry Street residence just after 7 p.m. on May 1 and requested assistance from OPP. The victim was later airlifted to hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The investigation is ongoing under the direction of the OPP's criminal investigation branch.
